Reflexology is safe and effective during pregnancy. It is, however, not recommended if there is a history of premature labour, severe hypertension, placenta previa or recent vaginal bleeding. If you suspect any problems in your pregnancy it is important to contact your doctor or midwife.
Labour
Research has shown that women who have regular reflexology treatments during pregnancy are more likely to have a shorter labour.
First time mums who received 10 reflexology treatments prior to giving birth had an average labour of 5 to 6 hours
It was also noted that the group treated with reflexology needed far less pain relief during labour.
Other benefits may include:
Avoidance of Induction of labour
A need for less pain relief
Improvement in co-ordination and acceleration of regular contractions
Preventing a retained placenta
